We launched our first cider and beer tastings this year.
The Tasting session was a real "Back to Basics" learning about different styles of beers and to smell and taste different malts and hops used in the brewing process.
We held our beer tasting in Louise's house to a surprisingly almost all female audience (86% female). Johanna Menneer was as informative as always on the brewing process and lead us through 8 different beers ranging from Sam Smith's Organic lager to Saltaire's Triple Chocolate Stout.
The winning beer of the evening, voted by 50% of the attendees and favourite beer was Old Speckeld Hen and there was good support for local brewery, Brown Cow's Mulitaward winning Captain Oates Mild.
The Jug & Bottle now has its very own range of beers. They are brewed by Brown Cower Brewery based at Barlow, North Yorkshire. Old School Ale, School Holly Daze and Mr Robinson are seasonally available.
Press Update; 03/08/11; Brown Cow Brewery has just won Silver Medal at The Great British Festival for their bottled beer "Captain Oates Mild".
The Jug and Bottle offers beer and lager in many formats; draught, bottled, chilled cans and chilled bottles.
There is a wide range on offer in the shop. Individual drinks are not listed as stock varies all the time.
Please note that we CANNOT mail order beer.
The abv of draught beer is always 4.3% or above. Jugs are available to purchase at the shop and come in two sizes; 4 pint and 8 pint. The beer is sold by the pint into either of these containers. (Being an off-licence you can only sample the beer before purchase).
Timothy Taylors' Landlord is always on draught, however Ram Tam is very occassionally on during the winter months as an excellent substitute. There is always a minimum of one other draught beer on at all times, sometimes two or three during certains times of the year. Previous National guest beers are; Festival Mild 4.8% from Gales, Burton Porter 4.5% from Burton Bridge and Gold 5% from Iceni. Previous local beers served are from Brown Cow at Barlow, Selby such as How Now 4.5%, Yankee 4.3% from Roosters at Harrogate and Wold Gold from Wold Top Brewery, good guess ~ in The Wolds!
