Yorkshire Press Awards ~ The Jug & Bottle is a Finalist!

The Yorkshire Business Awards are hosted by York Press. 2010 saw very high entry levels for many categories. The 2nd most popular category entered, by 40 applicants was Women in Business. Louise Smith, owner of The Jug & Bottle has now been short listed to the final three and will find out who's won at a gala dinner in November at York Race course.

This was a great award to get, beating two good shops in York. We have a great following for our bottled beers. I'm very lucky to have several small brewers supply me with cask and pick up bottles for me when round and about the country.

Yeah ~ we did it this year! Feeling more at home in The Dorchester we managed to settle into the free cocktails far more quickly this year. Little did I know I was pregnant ~ oops ~ oh well Charlie turned out fine!Again we were with the WKD people (still not stocking their drinks, see comments below) but they were still as charming as ever.

Now I don't know whether to take this as a massive compliment or huge insult ~ it usually depends what mood I'm in. We were also shortlisted with a chain that had 2,200 stores nation wide ~ so I guess a village off licence did well to compete. One of the reason we lost to Tesco was because they could insist their suppliers had to add a red tractor logo to the bottle labels to show sustainability…

We were short-lisited to be up against a chemist in a conservation area and a modern car garage in Bridlington. We won~we both shed a few tears ~ after all the rennovation had been five years in the making. Doug got a kiss from Claire Frisby, BBC1 Look North presenter.
